Ultimate X – Cape Town
The Hunters eXtreme – Ultimate X event took part at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront on Saturday. The venue was transformed into an Extreme Sporting paradise with the country’s best FMX, BMX, skate and wakeboarders stunning the crowd with their daredevil antics.
The festival, which is in its fourth year, saw over 6,000 extreme sports-loving spectators attending the day-long event in the Mother City. The extreme sporting festival was followed by an extreme concert at Cape Town’s hottest nightclub The Dragon Room on Harrington Street with top local DJ’s and bands playing into the night.
Markus Museler (Old School Productions), owner of the event, had the following to say about Ultimate X 2013. “We really pushed the boundaries this year to stage an action sports event on par with international standards. With record crowds and unbelievable performances from local and international athletes, this is without a doubt the most unforgettable Ultimate X to date.”
25 of the country’s best riders as well as international competitors turned the Gateway Canal into an extreme sporting delight with death-defying stunts and record breaking attempts, all for a piece of the R100 000 in cash prize and the prestigious title of the Hunter’s eXtreme Ultimate X Gold 2013 South African champion. Winners for each category included Dylan Mitchell for wakeboarding, Greg Illingworth for BMX, Louis Taulbert for skate, and Nick de Wit and Alastair Sayer for FMX.
Mike Silver, of experiential marketing partner Stretch, said that this year’s festival was the most successful edition to date. “Thanks to the help of our sponsor partners and the Western Cape Government, consumers were treated to an incredible action sports festival experience. With thousands of attendees visiting from across the country for the eXtreme weekend, I think it’s safe to say that Hunters eXtreme Ultimate X is now recognized as one of the region’s premier and largest summer events. Watch out the rest of SA, we may be paying you a visit soon!”
This year, Hunter’s eXtreme Ultimate X Festival gave back to the community through its Reach for a Dream initiative. The event aimed to fulfil the dreams of four extreme sport-loving children from the Reach for a Dream Foundation by giving them and their families a full VIP experience on the day. The festival looks forward to giving back and sharing the experience again next year with the children from Reach for a Dream.
